What can we say that Colten Boushie’s family hasn’t already said? What information can we give that hasn’t already been made clear by all the people who have gathered in cities across Turtle Island to honor Boushie’s life — particularly outside the court in North Battleford — healing and protecting one another where the Canadian state would not? Every time we see Boushie’s face flash across our news feed, we get that sinking feeling Indigenous folks from the prairies know well: it could have been me/my brother/my son/my grandson. Knowing this, feeling the collective mourning permeating our communities right now, tells us that we can’t look away or remain silent.
